February, Where Did You Go?

I can’t believe that tomorrow is March! February went by so fast! It seems like just yesterday it was February 1st and I was registering for the Chicago Marathon! 

I didn’t make any set goals for this month, which I probably should have. I did try and tweak my diet a bit. I really want to start eating a mindful diet. I don’t want to have to count calories or worry if something is not good for me. This week I have been trying to eat gluten-free. I have always struggled with stomach problems and I have realized that January & February I have been eating way too much gluten than previously. I blame my boyfriend Hector because he loves all things with gluten! 😉 I want to see if this solves the stomach problems that I have had pretty much my entire life. So far this week has been pretty good. I have been trying to prepare my meals somewhat ahead of time. I will probably be posting more about this topic! 

Today’s lunch was really fast and easy. I just heated some cooked brown rice, spinach, and then added a tomato & 1/2 an avocado. It was so good & a really simple lunch.

I am really looking forward to March. By today’s weather being 60 degrees, I feel that spring is almost here! Today I will work on my goals for March. I will post them tomorrow!

Weekend Recap.

I am a little sad that the weekend is coming to an end. Tomorrow will start another busy week with school.

I started my morning off with overnight oats. Lately every morning I have some form of overnight oats. It is that good.

My weekend was more exciting then it has been in quite some time. On Saturday, Hector and I went on a “longer” run. We ran 6.9 miles along the lakefront path. I haven’t ran that much since the half marathon in January. It felt so good! I can’t believe how nice the weather has been so nice for February! 

Later yesterday night Hector & I decided to go out to eat. We went to Native Foods in Lakeview. I was surprised how crowded it got, but again, we don’t go out much on Saturday night. I got the Ensalada Azteca Salad. I have had this a couple of other times and really like it. Hector got the Soul Bowl. He is trying to eat things that he normally wouldn’t. It was really good! 

I must say that I had a pretty good weekend! I hope that everyone did too! 

The weekend is finally here!

I haven’t been able to run this week until today. I know that isn’t good for my training, but I was really busy with school. I  have finally come to the realization that if I don’t get my run done in the morning, I just won’t do it. I must find a way to fit in my morning runs! Anyways, I did get in a 4 mile run around my neighborhood. Normally I run on the lakefront trail, but I decided to change this up a bit. It felt SO GOOD!! I can feel that I am running faster than before! 

In other news, I discovered today that there is going to be Chicago Women’s Half Marathon this June! I am really excited for this race. I pretty much was dancing up & down with joy. I plan on registering ASAP! It looks like it is going to be a really great race.

My plans for the weekend aren’t the most exciting. I am doing lots of homework. I plan on running Saturday & Sunday. I am hoping for at least 5-6 miles run each day. There is not that much else going on.

Finalizing My 2012 Race Schedule

Since running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon this past January, I have become addicted to racing. I never thought that I would be saying that!! I want to run so many more races this year! I am finding that it is really hard to pick just a handful of races.

The races that I am signed up for right now are the Chicago Half Marathon & the Chicago Marathon.

I am really interested in the Chi Town Half Marathon on April 1st. This looks like it would be a great race & it is at a good time for me. When they announced that there was going to be a Get Lucky Chicago, I got really excited. I really don’t want to spend $47.77 on a 7K and I don’t think that I’ll be ready for another half in a month. So, Get Lucky is ruled out!

I am 100% planning on doing the Martian Half Marathon on April 14th in Dearborn, MI. I am planning on running it with my cousin Kristin, who recently has started running. She is also registered for the Chicago Marathon!!

I want to do another 5k because I haven’t done one in 3 years. I want to see how my time has improved.

So this list the list of races that I decided I will run for sure:

Chi Town Half Marathon- April 1st

Martian Half Marathon- April 14th

Chicago Half Marathon- September 9th

Chicago Marathon- October 7th

I still want to find a race between the Martian Half and the Chicago Half. So, I will keep on looking to find the best race for me!

Lack of Training & A Plan

Well as far as running goes, this week I did some major slacking. I am definitely  going to be running Saturday & Sunday. Hopefully they will be longer runs. I realize that I need to stick with a schedule and run no matter what! (unless I am injured).

I am still trying to figure out what training plan I want to use for the Martian Half Marathon in April.

The suggest one from the race’s site starts the week of Feb 19th. I think that I just want to start fully training one week early. This way I am more focused  on running more during the week.

A Fresh Start.

After this past week, I really need to get back on track with what I am eating. I have not been eating very healthy and I really can tell it by how my body is feeling.

Today, is a fresh start. I know that  feel my best when I eat fresh, whole foods. I will take the time to plan my meals accordingly. I will keep myself accountable by tracking my progress here.  

I still have a few pounds to loose before I reach my goal weight. 20 to be exact. If I even reach half of that before marathon training starts, I will be ecstatic! In the past couple of years, I have lost around 60 pounds. ( more on that in a later post)

I look forward to this fresh start and what it will bring to me! 

This is my motivation: to eat healthy, and not be on a restrictive diet!
